The Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Plant Operations (Construction) - is a work based qualification for experienced workers.

This qualification meets the requirements of the main industry-recognised operators' competence card - the Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS).

It is also a required qualification to move from a Trained Operator (Red) card to a Competent Operator (Blue) card - in addition you must:

  • Hold a valid CPCS Trained Operator card on the category, that must be within the 12 month grace period

  • Pass the relevant CITB Health, safety and environment test

Who should attend

You will also seek the Certificate if your job role requires you to operate one of the following pieces of machinery:

  • Slinging and signalling in the movement of loads 

  • Lorry Loaders

  • Telescopic Handlers

  • Reach Trucks

  • Forward Tipping Dumpers

  • Ride on Rollers

  • Forklifts

  • Excavator Cranes

  • Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP) - Scissor Lift

  • Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP) - Boom

How to gain the Plant Operations (Construction) NVQ

Assessment is through a theory and practical assessment and discussions at a professional standard. The opions available for this course are as follows:

Assessment:

  • Profile/ Skill Match

  • CITB Health, safety and environment (HS&E) test

  • Sufficient experience

  • Witness testimonies completed by employer or supervisor

  • Record of employment

  • Record of qualification, education and formal training

  • Practical assessment, timed and working to industry tolerances/specification required for an operator in the category sector

  • Professional discussion (taped conversation with an assessor)

On Site Assessment Service:

  • Profile/ Skill Match

  • Minimum of six months' experience on category of plant

  • Operating category of plant on site to be assessed

  • Health and safety knowledge

  • Witness testimonies completed by employer or supervisor

  • On site practical assessment (minimum of two observations in workplace)

Pre-Course Requisite:

Before taking the course:

  • You must have passed a CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) test no more than two years before attending this course

  • Minimum of six months experience on category of plant

  • You must have a good understanding of spoken and written English
