The Tail Lift & Manual Pump Truck Operations course is designed to provide operators with the knowledge and skills required to safely use tail lifts and manual pallet trucks in transport, delivery, and warehouse environments. Course Objectives / Learning Outcomes

• Understand the legal responsibilities under PUWER and the Manual Handling Operations Regulations
• Identify the components, controls, and functions of tail lifts and manual pump trucks
• Conduct pre-use checks on both tail lifts and pump trucks in line with manufacturer and site requirements
• Demonstrate correct PPE selection and use for lifting and loading activities
• Operate tail lifts safely, including deployment, loading/unloading, and retraction
• Understand the limitations and load ratings of tail lifts and pump trucks
• Use manual pump trucks to move loads safely, including manoeuvring, lifting, and lowering techniques
• Recognise common hazards and implement control measures to reduce risk
• Apply safe working practices in confined or shared spaces (e.g., loading bays, delivery areas)
• Understand emergency stop functions and safe isolation procedures
• Carry out post-use checks, cleaning, and correct storage of equipment

Assessment Methods

This course is assessed through a combination of classroom-based theory and hands-on practical training. Learners must pass a written knowledge assessment and demonstrate safe, competent use of both tail lift and pump truck systems.

Additional Information

Candidates must be at least 18 years of age, physically capable of performing manual handling tasks, and possess sufficient English literacy to follow safety instructions and complete assessments.
