RTITB Reach Truck (LTG2)

Course Overview

This RTITB-accredited Reach Truck course provides comprehensive training for individuals who operate or intend to operate reach lift trucks in warehouse or distribution settings. It is ideal for both novice and experienced operators working in racking and high-bay storage environments. The course covers key skills including load handling, truck stability, and safe manoeuvring in tight spaces, helping candidates fulfil roles in logistics, warehousing, and retail distribution centres.

Course Objectives / Learning Outcomes

• Understand the responsibilities of a reach truck operator under current health and safety legislation
• Identify the main components of a reach truck and their function
• Perform effective pre-use inspections and report faults correctly
• Demonstrate safe load handling, stacking, and unstacking procedures at various heights
• Operate a reach truck safely in confined warehouse areas
• Maintain load stability and prevent truck overturns
• Apply appropriate shutdown and parking protocols

Experience Levels

• Novice – No prior Reach Lift Truck experience. Suitable for beginners who haven’t operated any kind of Reach Lift Truck before.
• Existing – Operators who have used a Reach Lift Truck informally or under supervision but lack formal training or certification. Some hands-on experience is expected.
• Refresher – For those with prior formal Reach Lift Truck training who need to renew certification, typically after 3–5 years, a break in usage, or following a workplace incident.
• Conversion – For certified operators of a different type of Reach Lift Truck. Requires documented evidence prior to training and relevant operational experience.

ABA Categories

Each course will be run using ONE of the following categories, please ensure you book the course that uses the category you require.

• D1 – Reach & straddle trucks 3-8m lift
• D2 – Reach & straddle trucks over 8m lift
• D3 – Stand on Reach trucks

Assessment Methods

Candidates are evaluated through a written theory test and practical skills assessments. Successful learners must show operational competency and understanding of safety principles to obtain certification.

Additional Information

Candidates must be at least 18 years of age, physically capable of operating a reach truck, and have an adequate level of English literacy to engage fully with course materials and assessments. This course can also be offered as an in-house COTS Certification.
