RTITB Multi Directional Lift Truck (LTG11)

Course Overview

This RTITB-accredited course is designed for individuals who operate multi-directional lift trucks, commonly used in industries requiring the handling of long or awkward loads such as timber, piping, and sheet materials. Suitable for both novice and experienced operators, the training covers safe operation, load stability, and directional control in complex warehouse and yard environments. Successful completion qualifies candidates for roles in manufacturing, logistics, and materials handling.

Course Objectives / Learning Outcomes

• Understand operator responsibilities under current health and safety legislation
• Identify the key components and directional controls of multi-directional lift trucks
• Conduct thorough pre-use checks and report faults effectively
• Safely manoeuvre the machine in multiple directions, including laterally
• Handle long and wide loads safely in confined or open environments
• Stack and unstack loads at varying heights
• Maintain load stability through correct lifting and positioning techniques
• Demonstrate shutdown and secure parking procedures

Experience Levels

• Novice – No prior Multi-Directional Lift Truck experience. Suitable for beginners who haven’t operated any kind of lift truck before.
• Existing – Operators who have used a Multi-Directional Lift Truck informally or under supervision but lack formal training or certification. Some hands-on experience is expected.
• Refresher – For those with prior formal Multi-Directional Lift Truck training who need to renew certification, typically after 3–5 years, a break in usage, or following a workplace incident.
• Conversion – For certified operators of a different type of lift truck. Requires documented evidence prior to training and relevant operational experience.

Each course will be run using ONE of the following categories, please ensure you book the course that uses the category you require.

• M1- Multi-directional Counterbalance Lift trucks
• M2- Multi-directional side loader
• M3 – Multi-directional Reach Trucks

Assessment Methods

Candidates are evaluated through a written theory test and a series of practical assessments. Both components must be passed to achieve certification.

Additional Information

Candidates must be at least 18 years of age, in good physical health, and capable of meeting the physical demands of machine operation. An adequate level of English literacy is also required to fully engage with course content and assessments. This course can also be offered as an in-house COTS Certification.
