PASMA Work at Height (Essentials)

Course Overview

This PASMA-accredited entry-level course is designed for anyone involved in working at height, especially those new to such environments. The training provides a comprehensive introduction to the principles of safe work at height and helps individuals understand their legal duties under the Work at Height Regulations. It is suitable for personnel across all industries including construction, maintenance, warehousing, and retail.

Course Objectives / Learning Outcomes

• Understand current legislation, regulations, and guidance affecting work at height
• Recognise employee responsibilities under health and safety law
• Identify various types of access equipment
• Select appropriate access equipment based on task and environment
• Gain an overview of fall protection methods and systems
• Understand the risks posed by fragile surfaces
• Conduct risk assessments and identify potential hazards
• Learn the basics of emergency procedures and rescue planning
• Understand how to inspect access equipment for safety

Assessment Methods

Delegates are assessed through a theory session that includes written exercises and a formal test. A minimum score of 80% is required to pass the course and achieve certification.

Additional Information

Candidates must be at least 18 years of age, in good physical and mental health, and capable of performing the practical tasks involved in tower assembly and inspection. No formal qualifications are required, though a basic awareness of the Work at Height Regulations and Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 is helpful. This course can also be offered as an in-house COTS Certification.

PPE Requirements

No personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for this course.
