Course Overview

The N403 Vehicle Marshal course is designed to provide learners with the essential skills and knowledge to safely guide and direct vehicles and plant machinery on work sites. This one-day program is ideal for individuals seeking roles in construction, industrial logistics, and site traffic management. It is particularly suited for those responsible for directing vehicle movements, maintaining safe exclusion zones, and communicating effectively with machinery operators. Completing this course can lead to job responsibilities such as vehicle marshalling, site traffic control, and safety coordination within high-risk environments.

Course Objectives / Learning Outcomes

• Have a basic understanding of the industry and the relevant legislation, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as a vehicle marshal
• Have knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular vehicle / machine to be guided
• Have a good understanding of signs and signals, approved hand signals and different forms of communication
• Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for vehicle marshal duties
• Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area including stop blocks and tipping areas
• Set up exclusion zone for unloading
• Guide machinery in a forward and reverse direction including confined spaces and “blind areas” safely and efficiently
• Environmental considerations
• Carry out all end of shift and shut down and parking procedures

Assessment Methods

This course is assessed through a combination of classroom-based theory and hands-on practical training. Learners are evaluated via a written theory quiz and a practical skills assessment.

Additional Information

Candidates must be at least 18 years of age, in good physical health, and capable of meeting the demands of practical training. An adequate level of English literacy is also required to fully engage with the course content and assessments.
