Course Overview

The NPORS Quick Hitch Awareness (N726) course is designed to raise awareness of the hazards and safe use of quick hitch systems on excavators and similar plant machinery. It is suitable for plant operators, supervisors, and groundworkers who interact with quick hitch attachments. This training supports site compliance and enhances understanding of mechanical and hydraulic hitch safety, helping learners fulfil responsibilities under current health and safety legislation.

Course Objectives / Learning Outcomes

• Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operator
• Be able to locate and identify the major components of the quick hitch and explain their functions
• Be able to locate and identify controls and explain their functions
• Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturer’s and legislative requirements
• Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for quick hitch awareness
• Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area
• Demonstrate safe fitting, removal and use of attachments
• Environmental considerations
• Storage of quick hitch attachments

Assessment Methods

This course is assessed through a combination of classroom-based theory and hands-on practical training. Learners are evaluated via a written theory quiz and a practical skills assessment.

Additional Information

Candidates must be at least 18 years of age, in good physical health, and capable of meeting the demands of practical training. An adequate level of English literacy is also required to fully engage with the course content and assessments. This course can also be offered as an in-house COTS Certification.
