NPORS Abrasive Wheels Awareness (N301A)

Course Overview

This awareness course is designed for personnel who may work near or with abrasive wheels but will not be physically mounting or operating cutting/grinding equipment. It is suitable for supervisors, safety officers, or team members working in environments where abrasive wheels are in use. The course promotes understanding of risks, control measures, and relevant legislation.

Course Objectives / Learning Outcomes

• Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working with abrasive wheels and responsibilities under the law
• Understand the structure and function of abrasive wheels
• Be able to identify different types of wheels and their characteristics
• Know how to identify common hazards associated with abrasive wheels
• Understand best practices for safe working environments where abrasive wheels are used
• Recognise appropriate PPE and safe distances
• Understand emergency procedures related to abrasive wheel use

Assessment Methods

This course is assessed through a combination of classroom-based theory and group participation. Learners are evaluated via a written theory quiz.

Additional Information

Candidates must be at least 18 years of age, in good physical health, and capable of meeting the demands of training. An adequate level of English literacy is also required to fully engage with the course content and assessments. This course can also be offered as an in-house COTS Certification.
