Course Overview

The Hand-Arm Vibration Awareness course provides essential knowledge for individuals who operate vibrating tools or machinery, such as grinders, strimmers, jackhammers, and compactors. This awareness-level training is aimed at operatives, supervisors, and employers in construction, landscaping, maintenance, and other industrial sectors. The course helps learners understand the health risks associated with vibration exposure and how to reduce them. It supports compliance with the Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005 and contributes to safer, more informed working practices.

• Understand what hand-arm vibration (HAV) is and how it affects the body
• Recognise the symptoms and stages of Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS)
• Identify common vibrating tools and the tasks associated with HAV exposure

Assessment Methods

This course is assessed through a classroom-based written theory assessment. Learners must demonstrate understanding of the key principles and safe practices related to hand-arm vibration.

Additional Information

Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and have an adequate level of English literacy to fully engage with the course content and complete the assessment. This course is suitable as a stand-alone awareness session or as part of a wider health and safety training programme.
