The practical element requires delegates to plan, enter, work in and exit a simulated medium-risk confined space safely.

Delegates must achieve competence in all assessed elements to successfully complete the course and receive the City & Guilds Level 2 Award in Working in Medium-Risk Confined Spaces. The qualification is valid for 3 years.

Entry requirements and additional information

Candidates must be at least 18 years of age, in good physical health and capable of meeting the demands of practical confined space training, including wearing equipment and working in enclosed environments. An adequate level of spoken and written English is required so that delegates can follow the course content, safety instructions and assessments.

PPE requirements

For the practical sessions, delegates must wear suitable personal protective equipment. This typically includes:

If tight-fitting respiratory protective equipment is used, a clean-shaven face in the sealing area may be required in line with HSE guidance on RPE. Any additional or site-specific PPE requirements will be confirmed before the course date.
