City & Guilds Confined Space Medium Risk (6160-09) – Requal

Course Overview

This refresher course is intended for personnel who already hold a City & Guilds qualification in Medium Risk confined space entry and require updated training to maintain their certification and competency. It focuses on reinforcing safe working practices, recognising atmospheric hazards, and using the necessary safety equipment. The course is suitable for individuals working in utilities, construction, manufacturing, and maintenance where medium risk confined spaces are encountered.

Course Objectives / Learning Outcomes

• Review and understand relevant legislation and legal responsibilities
• Identify hazards specific to confined space environments
• Conduct and apply risk assessments and safe systems of work
• Enter and exit confined spaces safely using appropriate techniques
• Test and safely operate gas monitors and detection devices
• Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and escape sets effectively
• Apply correct use of harnesses, tripods, and man-riding winches
• Maintain communication and entry control procedures
• Respond appropriately to emergency situations
• Demonstrate safe and competent practical performance

Assessment Methods

Assessment includes a written theory test and practical evaluation. Operators must achieve competency in all assessed elements, including safe setup, lifting, and shutdown procedures, to receive certification.

Additional Information

Candidates must be at least 18 years of age, in good physical health, and capable of meeting the demands of practical training. An adequate level of English literacy is also required to fully engage with the course content and assessments. This course can also be offered as an in-house COTS Certification.
